Play

Theater

PLAY (from the English “play,” meaning to reproduce audio/video, game, to play, theatrical play, to perform, to play music, action, simulation) is a stage research project, performed by Matías Umpierrez, on hate speech, ways of inhabiting power, and the hell and paradise of consciousness.

The difficulty of not recognizing those who live beside us in a world burning from the heat of the jungle, flooding in the whirlwinds of the wind. An orchestra of voices, amplified by old radio recorders, rehearses survival strategies while an army of puppets gets lost in the archipelago of vanity.

PLAY is a conference-performance. An installation. The dismantling of the theatrical play of the society we live in. Slides. Cassettes. Sculptures. People. A rhizome of stories. Circus of abuse. An atlas of resentment.

PLAY, a production by Studio Matías Umpierrez, in co-production with Contemporánea Conde Duque (Spain), ArtHaus Centro de Creación Contemporánea (Argentina). Co-presented by UNAM Teatro (Mexico), TIFT (Canada).
